![]() Some nursing staff shared with us what an amazing love story they were able to witness between our parents. It was a fitting place for her to return to as she had worked there years ago and taken care of many residents whom she cherished. In August of 2023, we helped our parents celebrate 60 years of marriage at Accura of Pleasantville Nursing Home, where mom had been a resident since April of 2021. Although she did not really like him and it was not love at first sight for her, he was persistent, and she married him three short months later, on August 17, 1963. Vande Kamp, at the A&W Root Beer hangout. In May of 1963, she met the love of her life, Larry G. She also had a passion for caring for the elderly. Her first job was working at the bowling alley in Knoxville but spent much of her career cleaning houses for people who became some of her closest friends. She graduated from Knoxville High School with the class of 1963. The short service will be followed by a luncheon.īorn in Knoxville, IA in 1945 to Clarence and Cleo Salsberry, Patsy was just shy of her 79th birthday. ![]() ![]() A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Pleasantville Memorial Hall (lower level). She was surrounded by the most important thing in her life, her family. She will be greatly missed by her children: Marcia (David) Krieger, Shelly (Dave) Reynolds, Jolene Schurman, and Jackie (Dave) Squier grandchildren: Cody (April) Reynolds, Bart (Jordynn) Stanley, Chase (Sammy) Reynolds, and Casey (Maggie) Dollison great grandchildren: Lola, Theo, Gretta, Jayna, and Brynn siblings: Ron Ripperger, Linda (Jerry) Schurman, Doug (Carol) Ripperger, and Mary (Scott) Huston along with many relatives and friends.Our loving mom, Patsy Vande Kamp, peacefully passed away on December 10, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Preceding her in death were her husband, Wayne, and son, Marty. She will be missed as president of the library board and many other essential roles she helped within the community. Marilyn will be missed on the streets of Lacona, cruising around on the golf cart, always quick with a smile or lending a hand with any project. Marilyn was very crafty and made many cross-stitch quilts, giving children and grandchildren many special keepsakes over the years. She loved watching the Hawkeyes and the Cubs playing any kind of card game and dominos. Holidays and family gatherings were highlights for Marilyn when all of the family were able to be together. Of course, she adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and loved to attend their events. Garage sales were lots of fun as she enjoyed the rare finds and even more enjoyed the thrill of bargaining for a better price. She enjoyed helping the Ford family with their children and really enjoyed selling corn dogs while working for McConnell Concessions. Marilyn continued to stay busy, her kids had a running joke that she was a Nanny and a Carny. Many times, traveling with her children and her siblings. She traveled to or through all 50 states and parts of Europe and China. ![]() Retiring in 2005, Marilyn found her passion for traveling. She worked for Gross-Galesburg in Chariton she then began working for American Republic Insurance Company in 1977. Marilyn enjoyed raising her family and was able to stay at home when her children were young. Marilyn married Wayne Schurman in July of 1960, and they were blessed with five children: Marcia, Marty, Shelly, Jolene, and Jackie. Attending Southeast Warren Schools with the Class of 1961. She was raised in Lacona with her siblings: Ron, Linda, Doug, and Mary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Altar Society or the Lacona Fire Department.īorn April 15, 1943, near Lacona, Iowa to Gervase and Esther Konrad Ripperger. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at the Lacona Community Center for a time of refreshments and fellowship. A Rosary Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Marilyn Schurman, age 80, of Lacona, died Sunday, November 26, 2023.
